Multimedia & Graphics

As a Digital Producer at Hawaii News Now, my job includes updating the website with the latest stories as well as converting those issues into consumable content on social media (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter). The purpose of doing this is to inform residents, broaden our audience range, and reach younger generations who mainly consume news on these platforms.

During my time with Hawaii News Now, we ranked #1 station in all of Gray Television for both total users and total video plays.

Our team and I also received the prestigious National and Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Digital, Small Market Television Station.

PODCASTS

Along with my duties as a Digital Producer at Hawaii News Now, I also produced, edited and hosted two podcasts:

  • "The Debrief": Breaking down the latest happenings in Hawaii from top issues in our thriving and diverse community to insights into our state government — sparking conversation with leaders from across the islands.

  • "Repairing Earth": A series on local solutions to global climate change, showcasing the people who are fighting climate change in our own backyard.

Through interviewing a wide range of Filipinos from the East Coast to Hawai‘i, multimedia journalist Emily Lourdes Cristobal works to depict the unique and personal experiences of Filipino Americans in a series of photographs and written, audio and video stories. With this project, she hopes that people will gain a better understanding of Filipino experiences, their culture, values, and most importantly their existence in America.

Beneath the Surface is a multimedia project that hopes to promote an honest and positive conversation about race and diversity at a predominantly white institution. We intend to do this by featuring the narratives of students of color and international students who attend Emerson College.

We hope that this project can be used as a resource, not only to educate students, faculty and staff but more importantly for students of color to know they are not alone.

We hope that the efforts to make more inclusive spaces will continue long after we leave and that this project will result in real change.
